Established in January 2000, the University of British Columbia's (UBC) Master of Software Systems (MSS) is administered by the Institute for Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems in collaboration between the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science. The full-time, 16-month MSS program prepares students with undergraduate degrees in scientific and engineering subjects other than computer science or computer engineering, for careers in software systems. The MSS curriculum consists of 30 credits of coursework and a four-month industry internship.

The MSS program is located in the ICICS/CS Building on the UBC campus. The program maintains two computer labs, office space and a coffee room, all of which are exclusively dedicated to MSS students, as well as the ICICS/CS Reading Room.
